At Waterside Primary School we aim to give every child full access to a broad and balanced curriculum. We recognise the importance of acquiring fluency in speaking, reading, writing and maths and hugely value children’s  Early Years experience where the foundations for these skills are built.

We use the Letters and Sounds programme to ensure all children have a secure grounding in phonics, and reading is taught through children having guided access to a number of reading schemes together with “real” books – ie. those written purely for the enjoyment of reading.
