Unavoidable School Closure Information

On occasions, schools across the country find themselves in the position of having to close due to an emergency situation – for example gas, water, sewage leaks, failure of the boiler and heating systems or severe inclement weather.

When an emergency situation occurs the Headteacher and the Chair of the Governing Body liaise with the local authority to make an informed decision about whether the school needs to close for Health and Safety reasons. Such a decision is never taken lightly. At all times, the Health and Safety of the children, parents and staff is of paramount concern.

When snow threatens closure we’ll do our best to keep you informed of what’s happening.  We will, of course, do our best to open.

PLEASE DO NOT RING THE SCHOOL: There may be no one on site to take your call and we may need to keep the lines open.

PLEASE DO visit our school website and the Hampshire County Council School closure website, as well as listen to local radio stations such as BBC Radio Solent.  These will be updated as soon as we know. We will also use our text messaging to inform parents.

Information about all schools, showing if they are open or closed is on the HCC website. This is especially helpful if you have children at two or more schools.

If all else fails we will put up a notice at the school gate.

Of course, sometimes the snow falls during the day and if we think there may be a risk for parents in collecting their children, we may be compelled to close the school early. Again, text messages will go out and we will do our utmost to inform all parents. Passing on this information by parents to other parents, in this instance is always appreciated.

We will always endeavour to salt any frosty or icy paths, but we also ask that all adults take care when walking both inside the school premises and outside the school when there is any possibility of slipping and having an accident.

ABOVE ALL STAY SAFE. Have fun in the snow with your children. Remember there is a lot of learning to be had.smiley
