Waterside school lunches are provided by award-winning caterers HC3S.

At HC3S, their ethos is about tasty food to help children flourish. And to do that it helps if they eat a healthy diet. By providing nutritious food, cooked fresh every day and which is responsibly sourced, this will give your children a balanced diet with choices that aid concentration levels and give them energy to focus and to play.

We also want children to understand about healthy lifestyles and take this positive message into adulthood. That’s why we’ve created a ripple (not just raspberry) with our ‘Ready Steady Cook’ sessions which are fun and engaging and why we introduced the ‘Food to Flourish Classroom’ to help teachers educate children using food in a way that cuts across the curriculum.

Where opportunity arises, we bring live cooking and workshops to the classroom and sometimes, out of the classroom, through partnerships with our suppliers and other local food organisations. We love schools to join in our celebrations for Nutrition and Hydration Week, British Food Fortnight, and National School Meals Week as key events in the food and drink calendar which are lots of fun.

We expect that parents of children in Key Stage 1 will take up the option of the Universal Infant Free School Meal. This is because we believe that the hot school dinner option is much better for the children’s learning and health. We recognise the evidence that states:

 children are better prepared for learning if they eat well
 children make more progress if they have eaten the right nutritional lunch
 only 1% of packed lunches provide the correct nutrition
 eating hot dinners is an important social occasion and the children learn vital social skills

Waterside also offer a jacket potato option.  It will work the same way as the existing menu and there will be a different filling each day to choose from.  Children will need to be aware when they make their choice.  This option will be a blue option in addition to the current red (meat) or green (vegetarian) option.  The price is £2.40 for all three options.
